Project Outline

Background

Council's Bathing Box/Boat Shed Policy (adopted in May 2006 was last reviewed in July 2012. The introduction of the Marine and Coastal Act and Policy, as well as changes to the Victorian Coastal Strategy, has influenced the overarching direction and management of Bathing Boxes and Boat Sheds on the foreshore.

We are reviewing our existing Bathing Box/Boat Shed Policy to better align it with the current strategic direction and the changing needs of existing licence holders. This will include updating the standard terms and conditions of a Bathing Box/Boat Shed licence agreement.

The Department of Water, Land and Planning (DEWLP) have approved all licences into overholding to enable this review and update to take place.

Stage 1 consultation

To develop a reviewed Policy that reflects community needs and legislative requirements we will:

  • Reach out to the existing Bathing Box license holders to understand how we can improve the new policy, while still adhering to the legislative requirements
  • Develop a draft Bathing Box Policy with community feedback
  • Check it with the wider community.
