About the Project
Kareela Reserve is a small local reserve located at 45R Kareela Road, Karingal 3199. The reserve is located beside Kareela Road Shopping Strip.
Kareela Reserve is a beautiful public open space characterised by large, mature feature trees, interesting topography and good connections to the surrounding neighbourhood and local shopping strip which is undergoing a significant transformation with new cafes and shops, reflecting the overall change in the neighbourhood.
It is, however, characteristic of many public open spaces in Karingal in which many parks contain outdated play spaces bearing the hallmark of incremental improvements implemented over many years without regard to a holistic design approach for the whole park.
The current playground is a steel unit, built in 2003.It is nearing the end of its useful life.
The draft concept design includes and upgrade to:
- Playground.
- Landscaping.
- Connected pathways.
- Park Furniture.
Kareela Shopping Strip is home to eight businesses including cafe, retail and wellbeing services. The public space outside these businesses has been identified in our Local Shopping Strip Upgrade Plan for future upgrade works.
