Background
In February 2020, The Victoria Government introduced an Action Plan ‘Recycling Victoria’ to reform our waste and recycling system over the next decade. The Action Plan includes an overhaul of our recycling system which will help improve the quality of our recycling, as well as introduce improvements to Victoria's current kerbside collection service by introducing a four (4) bin system:
- Garbage
- Recycling
- Food and Garden Organics (FOGO)
- Glass
The four-bin kerbside service may not be suitable for some dwelling types such as Multi Unit Developments (MUDs/Apartment complexes). This survey is to gauge whether alternative waste arrangements, such as use of the Council transfer station or local drop-off points would be more suitable.
How does this affect me?
Frankston City Council plan to transition our community towards this service change, commencing in 2024. Part of the transition process will be educating our community on the waste service changes, which will enable everyone to use the new service correctly.
How can I have my say?
We initially want to find out from you, as our key Mini Frankston City representatives, how you use the current bin system, what support you might need to successfully use the new four-bin system and what your thoughts are on public drop off locations within our Municipality for a separate glass collection.
This will guide the development of our Draft Waste Circularity Master Plan, and will also guide the broader community engagement and education that is needed for the transition.
Note this initial survey does not include questions around hard waste collections, as we will need the community's input on this later, once the remaining 2 year hard waste collection contract is up for review.
