Mandate new dwellings be designed to maximise passive solar heating

Some years ago I lodged an objection to a new dwelling planning application based on the argument that its proposed orientation did not maximise its potential energy efficiency. To achieve this I suggested the proposed house, on a multiple hectare vacant block, be rotated by 90 degrees without requiring changes to the internal design. I argued the suggested orientation would also reduce the need for major foundation earthworks and less native vegetation removal than the proposed orientation…

Let's stop suburban burning off

Too many residents of Frankston South seem to believe that the only effective way to keep the larger blocks tidy is to burn-off excess green waste rather than composting or recycling. Frankston City Council needs to stop issuing cheap permits to allow households to burn green waste. If a permit is necessary, it should cost a householder the same, if not more, to hire a skip to remove the green waste.

New multi-unit developments

It would be good to have a mechanism that if you have factored high environmental outcomes into a new development, that you could reduce the number of car spaces required in multi-unit developments. Encouraging more green spaces and less emissions. At the moment, new multi-unit developments are often more about cars than people, and certainly more than the planet.

Eco Display House for Frankston City

If would be great to have a display home in Frankston City that has energy saving devices installed so it demonstrates to the public what they can do in their own homes to improve energy efficiency. It does not have to be a new house as it would be good to show how to retrofit energy saving ideas to existing homes and would also provide ideas for renters.
