About the new Langwarrin Child and Family Centre
The future kindergarten model is changing to 15 hours for 3-year-old kinder and 30 hours for 4-year-old kinder. To accommodate this, new kindergartens will need to be built with more rooms and some kindergarten services will need to be relocated.
Long Street Reserve has been selected as a site for a future Child and Family Centre because it is located very close to a Maternal and Child Health Centre and pre-school which need to be relocated.
Long Street Reserve has existing walking paths, trees and a playground. Two concept designs have been created, that:
- Give the community a say in where the public playground should be on the site and how it should be designed.
- Protect and feature many of the existing trees and native vegetation.
- Retain green open space and pedestrian access through the reserve between Long Street, Alcon Court and Pamela Place.
- Discourage street parking by providing a car park on site. Options for bike, scooter and pram parking are also being considered.
- Promote Long Street as the main entrance for the site by locating the car park and main entrance on the Long Street side of the building.
