Langwarrin Early Years and Community Centre

Langwarrin Community Centre is undergoing expansion to incorporate a kindergarten and Maternal and Child Health Services with existing community services and programs. This much-needed redevelopment will meet the growing demand for kindergarten places in Langwarrin.

The Langwarrin Community Centre and Early Years Project is funded through a Building Blocks Partnership Agreement with the Victorian Government and Frankston City Council. The partnership will see additional kindergarten places created across Frankston City by 2026.

When will the new kindergarten be open?

The redevelopment will begin in mid-November 2024, with a 13-month construction timeline, opening in time for the 2026 kindergarten year.

The facility is planned to be officially opened in February 2026, offering sessional hours for three- and four-year-old children alongside new Maternal and Child Health services and existing community services and programs.

How was the Community Centre chosen as the preferred location?

Over the past 12 years, Council has investigated several sites for a new early years service in Langwarrin to cater for the growing demand and more recently to meet the Victorian Government’s Kindergarten Reforms.

In June 2023, the Langwarrin Community Centre Incorporation approached Council to explore the opportunity to provide early years services at the Langwarrin Community Centre at 2 Lang Road, Langwarrin. The Centre currently provides a range of community programs and occasional care.

Council then explored a range of traffic, parking, and feasibility assessments to determine the site's suitability. The results of these were published in Council’s 31 July 2023 report. In particular, Council has undertaken a thorough traffic assessment of the area, this indicated that the daily drop off and pick up routines for families and those travelling along Lang and Warrandyte Roads is expected to be smooth and efficient process once the new facility is operational.

This project is supported by the existing Langwarrin Community Centre and Langwarrin Kindergarten and follows an extensive site investigation and community engagement journey to create the additional kindergarten spaces, our growing community needs into the future.

What community engagement has been undertaken?

Following analysis and feasibility studies of several sites across Langwarrin over the past 12 years, Council undertook a range of engagement activities in 2022-2023 to seek the community’s feedback on location for a new Langwarrin kinder, including face-to-face community pop-ups, an online survey, and map contributions.
