About the project
We are planning for an upgrade at Heritage Reserve as part of Frankston City Council's Play Strategy 2021.
Heritage Reserve is located at Edinburgh Drive, Skye with pedestrian entry points from Heritage Drive, Edinburgh Drive and Balinga Drive.
The proposed upgrade to the play space will aim to provide a broader range of play elements, improved access and inclusion.
The upgrade will also include more tree planting and improved landscaping.
Construction works are expected to begin in late 2025 and be completed by early 2026.
What upgrades are proposed?
The Play Strategy outlines a range of service levels for play spaces across the municipality which guide the features and facilities that can be included in each space.
Heritage Reserve is identified as a local major play space which is intended to service the immediate local area (400m walking catchment) for regular short-term stays (up to an hour).
As a local major play space with a shorter stay time, the upgrade will provide for a range of ages with a variety of physical play opportunities and does not include public bathrooms or BBQs.
The proposed upgrade includes:
- Refurbishment of the existing play structure with new features
- Swings including a basket swing
- Flying saucer
- Half-sized multiuse court (including netball and basketball hoops)
- Picnic Shelter
- Picnic Setting
- Bench Seats
- Associated landscaping works and tree planting
We invite you to review our concept plan below, and to share your feedback via our short survey. We understand that the community highly values its play spaces, and we appreciate the time taken to share your thoughts with us!

you should really put toilets into these ungraded parks people would use them alot more. AND BINS! there is always rubbish all over the ground at heritage reserve and it would be so much safer and cleaner with bins! It disgusts me that there isnt already and shame on you for not spending money on toilet and bins at your parks. |
we go to this park regulary as we live [nearby], my kids will love being able to play basketball on the new court and enjoy the upgraded playground facilities especially the swings where the current ones are in need of an upgrade from wear and tear. |
We are local and regular users. Such a great space but needs shade and more play options. Upgrade looks great would love perhaps the option of football goal posts or soccer goal to utilise the fantastic grass area if at all possible. |
This play space needs shade over the play equipment. It would be great to have more landscaping with big rocks and trees planted closer. My kids have asked for a scooter ramp also please |
Some gym equipment multi stations would be great as well |
Really pleased that there will be a basketball half court so my daughter can practice her skills! |
Really needed shelter at the playground as there isn't any, so to see you've included a shelter is great! Basketball ring is fantasic also, we have 2 boys 3 and 5 who love the playground but will love having a new one with all the upgrades Thank you council |
Please put a bin in as well and dog waste bags. There are a lot of dogs in the area and this will help keep our footpaths clean |
Need more shade at this park. Big shade sales would be good. And definitely basketball court would be great for older kids. |
My family live within 400 metres of this reserve and regularly frequent the park, however due to the lack of facilities and play space we don’t tend to stay long. We now have a baby who would love to utilise this area. We love the proposed plans and think this will be a great upgrade to the estate for families. Our other suggestions would include: - small track around the park (scooters/bikes) - mini trampoline in ground (lady Emily park has this) We look forward to the upgrade. |
Love the idea of the courts. As a parent this park has always had good visibility from the roads and has therefore been a safe area for kids to play. Would hate for all the trees to block visibility so parents fell less safe for their kids to play. |
love that the existing playground is being kept and refurbished. My children however love the chain/climbing wall and also love the steering wheel under the playground so I hope that feature is staying. Very excited about a small basketball/netball court being added to attract older children and gives another reason to visit. Would absolutely love if the current gravel path around the park would be sealed so it can be used as a bike/scooter park (similar to Lady Emily reserve) |
Looks great. Well done to all involved |
Just if the park can have more then one picnic table. A lot of families visit and we will it needs at least 2-3 picnic tables |
It would be good to have trampoline area like the new park on wedge road |
Have you considered access to drinking water, water fountain? Can you please consider shade sails over the play equipment area. |
Finally something for the older kids to do in the area, thank you :-) I am glad you didn’t add public toilets as that can bring out the worst in people. |
As we live in Australia all play spaces should have some form of shade over the playgrounds for sun safety. I have 2 young children and we encourage our children to play outside and they love to spend hours at a playground we do all the hat and sun screening however extra shade protection from the harsh sun is always a bonus as a parent. A shade sail would be a very beneficial addition to this play space as the trees will take years to grow into a protective canopy. |

From proposal seating is not sufficient, looks to be 12 max. Another shelter on the northern side of the playground would benefit if multiple families visit area. Lack of ammenities is a issue, tap for hygiene and water intake should have been a higher priority. Short term play for 10year olds and under, do require a toilet. 400m radius is a few minutes walk, not great for little ones to hold it in. Greater community would use the grass area and ammenities too, for picnics/ gathering and footy |
Hi, This has been my local park for the last 6 years and I am excited for this park upgrade ! With the planning I would like to see it look more modernised and not so dull, add different timbers plants trees and some colour. I would also recommend around the whole park a track for bikes and scooters for kids to ride on, and you can never have enough shade and picnic tables. The basketball court is a great idea! Maybe a block wall so kids can play tennis and other activities. Thank you |
How are we as a resident going to cope with the extra traffic and where do you want people to park their cars We already have a problem with cars now using Edinburgh Drive as a short cut between Hall Road and Mcomicks Road and its now a race through track. Further more cars cut through the round about at Heritage Drive on the wrong side at high speed, you have put one barrier up however it doesn't cover all sides If you increase use of the park then put speed humps in and parking facilities |
I have children aged 7 and 9. We were really hoping to see monkey bars or bars for children to swing on. So many of the kids friends who visit comment how these are wanted. Also play equipment for older children such as a ninja course or gym equipment. Lots of teens in the area. With lots of grass space a possible track right around with BMX bumps or similar. We live on Edinburgh Drive only 50 metres from park and would love it to be more usable. |
I live [nearby] and am concerned about the sound level of basketballs bouncing when the park is so closely surrounded by houses. It is a very echoey are and sound already travels a lot from the play area. I am also concerned the the upgrades will attract more people who will come in cars and have nowhere to park. As it illegal to park on the nature ships will will they be clogging up the roads and causing obstructions? Park visitors already have no choice but to park on the grass. |
I would love to see a sand pit or sand area something alone the lines of that my daughter loves the sand but due to having no car on the warmer days it’s to much for her to get the bus there and back so a little sand pit with a park would win her heart. Also would love a little off lead dog park would be great 😊 |
It should have a gated enclosed area for pets. |
Need more undercover tables and chairs. Flying fox would be a nice choice. BBQ |
Sandpit, trampolines, flying fox, water play options |
Should be an enclosed pet area and also a waddle pond for the ducks that were displaced many years ago when the existing water was filled in. Every year these ducks walk around the streets with no water provided for their needs. |
There are no parking facilities here. There is no way Heritage Reserve can handle any more than it now supports. Parking is already bad, if not dangerous at times. Edinburgh Drive is now a major arterial between Hall Road and McCormick's Road and speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, burnouts, motorbikes and accidents are common. Its become predictably a lot worse since the hall Road downgrade and neither the council, police or MP's seem to be concerned. I will oppose this plan. |
Would love to have seen some form of water play area or sandpit zone. But concept is great love the basketball/netball courts. Thank you for upgrading our local park ❤️ |
